“I’m sure it will be fine. Your father is sending the carriage for you, that’s a good sign,” Penelope smile and gently stroked Esme’s cheek. Painfully aware that Joe was seating opposite them, Esme pulled back from Penelope’s touch. She didn’t say anything, but flicked her eyes in Joe’s direction, who was steadfastly looking out the window.

“He won’t mind,” Penelope whispered close to Esme’s ear and then pressed a gentle kiss on the lobe. Esme kept her eyes on Joe just in case he turned his head, and leaned back in the seat as Penelope’s lips travelled to her neck.
